The Chicago White Sox release Bret Prinz

Bret Prinz is not a White Sox player anymore because he couldn’t get loose fast enough to get into a game last week and Manager Ozzie Guillen was quite irked about it.  While Prinz didn’t pitch too well for the White Sox while he was up with them, he likely would have had a longer leash if he just came into the game when Guillen wanted him to.  Prinz pitched in 4 games for the White Sox and he was 0-0 with a 8.10 ERA.  He threw 3.1 innings and he allowed 4 hits, walked 2 batters and whiffed 1.

The Chicago White Sox are going to place Jermaine Dye on the DL

The White Sox are going to place Jermaine Dye on the 15-day disabled list later today with a sore quad muscle.  Dye has had a rough season so far and the rest could do him good.  He has played in 65 games this season and he’s 56 for 244 (.230 avg, .708 OPS) with 29 runs scored, 11 homers and 35 RBIs.  The Pale Hose are expected to call up outfielder Ryan Sweeney and they will start him almost everyday until Dye or Erstad is ready to return from injury.  Sweeney played in 15 games earlier this season with the Sox and he was 9 for 45 (.200 avg, .599 OPS) with 5 runs scored, 1 homer and 5 RBIs.  Sweeney has played pretty good in AAA ball so far this season.  In 52 games there, Sweeney is 59 for 200 (.295 avg, .797 OPS) with 23 runs scored, 4 homers and 23 RBIs.

Darin Erstad lasted exactly 1/2 of an inning before the White Sox had to DL him again

This is amazing.  Every time things start to look good for the White Sox…..they go sour!  Darin Erstad made a fantastic catch in CF in the top of the first inning yesterday and he sprained his ankle on the play.  He has been placed back on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained ankle.

The Chicago White Sox send Jerry Owens to AAA

The White Sox were very disappointed in the play of Jerry Owens so they sent him to the minors to make room for Darin Erstad who’s ready to come off of the disabled list.  Owens played in 15 games for the Pale Hose this season and he was only 9 for 53 (.170 avg, .422 OPS) with 8 runs scored and 3 stolen bases.  The White Sox are happy to have Erstad back as it can help them try to jumpstart their slumping offense.  Erstad has played in 47 games this season for the Sox and he’s 48 for 182 (.264 avg, .652 OPS) with 21 runs scored, 2 homers, 21 RBIs and 7 stolen bases.  Scott Podsednik is also nearing a return that could put the White Sox lineup at full power for the first time since April.

The Chicago White Sox should hold off on the firesale

Ozzie Guillen favors an aggressive team on the basepaths but his best two little ball players have been injured.  The White Sox should hold off on the firesale until Scott Podsednik and Darin Erstad play in a few games.  I’m thinking that their speed at the top of the lineup could have an effect on the lineup as a whole and the opposing pitcher.  Podsednik has only played in 10 games this season and he’s 10 for 33 (.303 avg, .833 OPS) with 6 runs scored, 1 homer, 2 RBIs and 3 stolen bases.  Podsednik is almost ready to return as he could be back late this week.  Darin Erstad has played in 47 games this season and he’s 48 for 182 (.264 avg, .652 OPS) with 21 runs scored, 2 homers, 21 RBIs and 7 stolen bases.  I really think the Pale Hose should wait until they have their complete lineup on the field for a while before they decide give up on the season.
