The Chicago White Sox lose catcher Gustavo Molina on waivers

The White Sox placed Gustavo Molina on waivers and he got claimed by the Baltimore Orioles.  Losing Molina shouldn’t hurt the White Sox at all as he is a pretty poor hitter.  He played in 10 games this season for the White Sox and he was only 1 for 18 (.056 avg, .156 OPS) with 1 RBI.

The White Sox will likely platoon now at 2B

The White Sox will promote 24 year old lefty swinger Danny Richar to handle most of the work at 2B.  He has played in 98 AAA games this season and he is 122 for 400 (.305 avg, .870 OPS) with 61 runs scored, 13 homers, 61 RBIs and 8 stolen bases.  He will likely play against all righthanders with Alex Cintron playing against lefty starters.  Cintron has played in 50 games this season and he is 31 for 133 (.233 avg, .575 OPS) with 17 runs scored and 13 RBIs.  Look for Cintron to pick up the pace with the bat as he will likely get more playing time.

The White Sox decided to help out the Phillies by trading them Tadahito Iguchi to replace the injured Chase Utley and all the White Sox got in return was 20 year old righty reliever Mike Dubee.  Dubee pitched in 30 A-ball games this season and he was 4-4 with 1 save, a 3.88 ERA and a 1.33 WHIP.  In 55.2 innings Dubee has allowed 52 hits, walked 22 batters and whiffed 54.  He is a long way from the major leagues.

The White Sox place outfielder Luis Terrero on the DL

The White Sox have placed Luis Terrero on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left groin.  Terrero has played in 48 games this season for the White Sox and he is 24 for 107 (.224 avg, .715 OPS) with 15 runs scored, 5 homers, 10 RBIs and 3 stolen bases.  The Pale Hose have activated Scott Podsednik from the DL.  He has had a lost season so far for the White Sox as he has played in only 19 games and he is 18 for 67 (.269 avg, .758 OPS) with 13 runs scored, 1 homer, 2 RBIs and 4 stolen bases.

The Chicago White Sox have had bullpen troubles and Contreras has been awful

Blogged under Front Page, Pitching BP, Bloglockers by chinmusic on Tuesday 10 July 2007 at 11:34 am

The White Sox would love to move Jose Contreras in a deal in the coming weeks because he makes a lot of cash and he just isn’t that good anymore.  He’s 5-10 with a 5.19 ERA and a 1.50 WHIP so far this season.  The lefties in the bullpen (Matt Thornton and Boone Logan) have both been pretty bad this season.  Thornton had a breakthrough season in 2006 but he’s been pretty bad this season.  Thornton is 2-3 with a save, a 5.22 ERA and a 1.60 WHIP this season.  Logan has also been pretty bad as he is 1-0 with 5.63 ERA and a 1.38 WHIP this season.  Mike MacDougal was expected to be the set up man for the White Sox but he’s been awful this season as he is 1-3 with a 6.23 ERA and a 2.17 WHIP.  Nick Masset has also been pretty bad for the White Sox this year as he is 2-3 with a 7.34 ERA and a 2.00 WHIP.  Look for the White Sox to try to improve the bullpen in their impending firesale.
