The Chicago White Sox shift Josh Fields to the outfield

The Chicago White Sox have shifted Josh Fields to left field to get him ready to play there in 2008 when Joe Crede returns.  Fields has played in 77 games this season for the White Sox and he is 69 for 288 (.240 avg, .750 OPS) with 33 runs scored, 17 homers and 51 RBIs.  His only glaring weakness is that he whiffs a ton (101 times this year).  Scott Podsednik loses his starting job due to this move.  He has not played well this season and probably deserved to grab some pine.  In 46 games for the Pale Hose this season he is 39 for 152 (.257 avg, .704 OPS) with 23 runs scored, 2 homers, 10 RBIs and 9 stolen bases.

Jermaine Dye is on fire in the 2nd half for the Chicago White Sox

Jermaine Dye has really been thumping the baseball in the second half of the season and it has earned him a new two-year contract.  Dye has played in 38 games since the All-Star Break and he is 43 for 142 (.303 avg, 1.011 OPS) with 31 runs scored, 12 homers and 24 RBIs.  Dye has now played in 109 games this season and he is 100 for 408 (.245 avg, .791 OPS) with 61 runs scored, 24 homers and 63 RBIs.

The Chicago White Sox sign lefty Mike Myers

The White Sox have brought Michael Myers back to Illinois right in time for Rob Zombie’s “Halloween” which opens next week.  Enough about the movies already as the White Sox have signed Mike Myers for the rest of the season with a team option for 2008.  So in essence, Myers has a one month tryout with the White Sox as he’s pitching for a job in 2008.  Myers fills a need for the White Sox as they have had big trouble from the left side of their bullpen.  Myers pitched well for the Yankees this season and he worked in 55 games and he was 3-0 with a 2.66 ERA and a 1.33 WHIP for them.  In 40.2 innings this season with NY, Myers allowed 38 hits, walked 16 batters and whiffed 21.

Lefty reliever Carlos Vasquez is looking good in AAA for the Chicago White Sox

With all of the problems the White Sox are having in their bullpen you would think they would have called 24 year old lefty Carlos Vasquez up already.  He has pitched in 42 games in AA+AAA ball this season and he is 2-1 with 4 saves, a 2.39 ERA and a 1.13 WHIP.  In 64 innings this year he has allowed 42 hits, walked 30 batters and whiffed 46.  Look for Vasquez to get called up to the majors when rosters expand in September, if not sooner if he keeps pitching well in AAA.

The Chicago White Sox activate Mike MacDougal and send Charlie Haeger to the minors

Blogged under Front Page, Bloglockers, Arrivals & Departures by chinmusic on Thursday 2 August 2007 at 3:03 pm

The White Sox have activated Mike MacDougal off of the DL and they hope he pitches much better this time around.  He has pitched in 31 games this season for the White Sox and he is 1-3 with a 6.23 ERA and a 2.17 WHIP.  In 21.2 innings for the ChiSox he has allowed 26 hits, walked 21 batters and whiffed 21.  If he could just throw more strikes he could be a dominant pitcher because he has outstanding stuff.  Charlie Haeger pitched awful for the Pale Hose and he earned his demotion.  He pitched in 8 games out of the bullpen for the White Sox and he was 0-1 with a 7.15 ERA and a 2.21 WHIP.  In 11.1 innings for the Sox he allowed 17 hits, walked 8 batters and whiffed 1.
