Jenks has been a very bright spot for the White Sox this season.  He has pitched in 63 games this season and he is 3-5 with 38 saves, a 2.90 ERA and a 0.90 WHIP.  Jenks has now worked 62 innings this season and he has allowed only 43 hits, walked 13 batters and whiffed 56.  Javier Vazquez has been the best starting pitcher for the White Sox this season.  In 30 starts, he is 13-8 with a 3.83 ERA and a 1.15 WHIP.  In 202 innings, Vazquez has allowed 185 hits, walked 47 batters and whiffed 193.  The White Sox are currently 65-86 which has them in last place in the A.L. Central, 24 games behind the Indians and 1/2 a game behind the Royals.

Time is running out for the underachieving White Sox if they want to get out of last place. They are currently 61-84 which has them 24 games behind the Cleveland Indians in the American League Central.  What is more shocking than that is the White Sox are 1.5 games behind the Kansas City Royals.  It will be up to the bullpen to protect a couple leads if the White Sox are going to get out of the basement.

Outfielder Jerry Owens was much better his 2nd time around this season for the White Sox.  Since the All-Star Break, Owens has played in 55 games and he is 56 for 222 (.252 avg, .626 OPS) with 26 runs scored, 1 homer, 12 RBIs and 19 stolen bases.  He has now played in 78 games this season and he has hit .246 (.600 OPS) with 37 runs scored, 1 homer, 12 RBIs and 24 stolen bases.  Ozzie Guillen seems to like Owens now so he may be the favorite to lead off and play center field in 2008 for the White Sox if he can finish strong.

What a nightmare this season has been for the Chicago White Sox.  The White Sox have only won 2 of their last 10 games and it’s because of lousy pitching and hitting.  The Sox are now 58-79 on the season which has them in last place in the American League Central, 21 games behind the Cleveland Indians.  The Pale Hose are last in the American League in runs scored with 575 (4.2 per game) and they have allowed the 2nd most runs in the American League (732, 5.3 runs per game) and that is a recipe for disaster.  Paul Konerko (.262, 27 HRs, 73 RBIs), Jermaine Dye (.246, 26 HRs, 67 RBIs) and Jim Thome (.268 avg, 23 HRs, 73 RBIs) all have good power numbers but none of them have been consistent this season.  Mark Buehrle (9-9, 3.47 ERA) and Javier Vazquez (11-8, 3.91 ERA) should both be able to sue the offense for non-support as they have each pitched much better than their record shows.  Closer Bobby Jenks has been outstanding again this season as he is 3-4 with 36 saves and a 2.72 ERA.
