The White Sox have designated Alex Cintron for assignment. The 29-year old switch-hitter played in 68 games last season for the White Sox and he was 45 for 185 (.243 avg, .605 OPS) with 23 runs scored, 2 homers and 19 RBIs. Cintron has now played in 598 games in his major league career and he is 525 for 1,897 (.277 avg, .716 OPS) with 231 runs scored, 32 homers, 212 RBIs and 18 stolen bases. Cintron should have no problem finding a new job.

The Chicago White Sox sign Scott Linebrink

The White Sox have signed righty reliever Scott Linebrink to a 4-year, $19 million dollar contract. Linebrink pitched in 71 games last season for the Padres & Brewers last season and he was 5-6 with 1 save, a 3.71 ERA and a 1.32 WHIP. Linebrink will fill a big need for the White Sox setting up Bobby Jenks in the 8th inning of games. He should do a good job as long as he can handle the American League as next season will be his first in the league. He has now pitched in 384 games (6 starts) in his major league career and he is 30-16 with 4 saves, a 3.21 ERA and a 1.27 WHIP. Linebrink has now thrown 442.2 innings in his major league career and he has allowed 402 hits, walked 159 batters and whiffed 378.

The Chicago White Sox release Scott Podsednik

The White Sox were so disappointed in Podsednik’s 2007 season that they have released him thus ending his career with the team. Podsednik played in 62 games last season for the White Sox and he was 52 for 214 (.243 avg, .668 OPS) with 30 runs scored, 2 homers, 11 RBIs and 12 stolen bases. Podsednik played in 330 games for the White Sox (3 years) and he was 336 for 1,245 (.270 avg) with 196 runs scored, 5 homers, 81 RBIs and 111 stolen bases. Josh Fields will likely be the starting left fielder for the White Sox in 2008 unless he’s moved in a deal (Miguel Cabrera?).

The Chicago White Sox acquire Orlando Cabrera from the Angels for Jon Garland

Blogged under Front Page, Bloglockers, Arrivals & Departures by chinmusic on Tuesday 20 November 2007 at 10:15 pm

The White Sox have traded Jon Garland to the Angels for shortstop Orlando Cabrera. This is an interesting little move after the White Sox just re-signed Juan Uribe last week. Uribe could be used as trade bait or he could slide over to 2B where the White Sox have a huge hole. Cabrera played in 155 games last season for the Angels and he was 192 for 638 (.301 avg, .742 OPS) with 101 runs scored, 8 homers, 86 RBIs and 20 stolen bases. The White Sox are banking on Cabrera being able to hit at the level he did in 2007 instead of his career norms. He has now played in 1,411 games in his major league career and he is 1,446 for 5,301 (.273 avg, .724 OPS) with 706 runs scored, 97 homers, 627 RBIs and 168 stolen bases. It will be hard for the White Sox to replace Jon Garland in the rotation so the White Sox need the 2007 version of Cabrera to make this trade work.

The Chicago White Sox re-sign Juan Uribe

Blogged under Front Page, Bloglockers, Arrivals & Departures by chinmusic on Wednesday 7 November 2007 at 10:56 pm

The White Sox have signed shortstop Juan Uribe to a 1-year, $4.5 million dollar contract. Uribe played in 150 games for the White Sox last season and he was 120 of 513 (.234 avg, .678 OPS) with 55 runs scored, 20 homers and 68 RBIs. He has played four seasons for the White Sox covering 562 games in which he was 492 for 1,959 (.251 avg) with 248 runs scored, 80 homers and 284 RBIs. This was probably a good move for the White Sox because free agency looks thin at shortstop.
