The White Sox have signed 36-year old righty Esteban Loaiza to a contract for the remainder of the season to serve as the long man in the bullpen and for depth in case a starting pitcher gets hurt. He pitched in 7 games (3 starts) for the Dodgers this season and he was 1-2 with a 5.63 ERA and a 1.21 WHIP before they designated him for assignment. Loaiza has know pitched in 374 games (333 starts) in his major league career and he is 126-114 with 1 save, a 4.65 ERA and a 1.41 WHIP. Loaiza pitched very well with the White Sox during the 2003 and 2004 seasons. In the two years with the White Sox, Loaiza pitched in 55 games (all starts) and he was 30-14 with a 3.65 ERA and a 1.23 WHIP. The White Sox are hoping that Loaiza still has something left in the tank.

The White Sox have designated outfielder DeWayne Wise for assignment to make room on the roster for Juan Uribe who was activated off the disabled list. Wise only played in 6 games for the White Sox and he was 0 for 6 (.000 avg, .000 OPS) with 1 run scored and 1 stolen base. It will be interesting to see how Ozzie Guillen handles the 2B position. Uribe was the starter before he was injured and he played well on defense but he didn’t hit the ball too well. Uribe has played in 39 games this season for the White Sox and he is 23 for 116 (.198 avg, .590 OPS) with 13 runs scored, 3 homers and 15 RBIs. Alexei Ramirez struggled early this season but he played well while Uribe was out. Ramirez has played in 34 games this season for the Pale Hose and he is 25 for 98 (.255 avg, .653 OPS) with 11 runs scored, 2 homers, 9 RBIs and 2 stolen bases. The feeling here is that Guillen will split the playing time pretty evenly between Uribe and Ramirez.
