The Chicago White Sox are deep at 2B for 2010
23-year old righty swinging Gordon Beckham broke into the majors at 3B with the White Sox but in 2010 he will be moving to 2B where he should feel more at home on defense. Beckham played in 103 games for the White Sox last season and he was 102 for 378 (.270 avg, .807 OPS) with 58 runs scored, 14 homers, 63 RBIs and 7 stolen bases. Beckham made 14 errors in 102 games for the Pale Hose last season but he showed good range at 3B. He will be a decent player defensively for the White Sox at 2B in 2010.
27-year old righty swinging Jayson Nix will be Beckham’s back-up at 2B in 2010. He played in 116 games for the Pale Hose last season and he was 74 for 309 (.239 avg, .767 OPS) with 42 runs scored, 15 homers and 46 RBIs. Nix made 6 errors in 52 games at 2B for the White Sox last season while showing above average range. Nix will give the White Sox some power when he plays but don’t expect a high average.
42-year old switch-hitting Omar Vizquel was signed to help out off the bench in 2010. He didn’t make any errors in 16 games at 2B for the Rangers last season while showing outstanding range. Vizquel will be able to give Beckham, Nix and starting shortstop Alexei Ramirez some tips on defense.
