The Chicago White Sox are going to have a lot of rookies getting P.T. in 2012 as their massive rebuilding project begins. Here is a look at 9 of the rookies I see playing or pitching for the White Sox at some point in 2012:

Addison Reed: 23-year old righty reliever Addison Reed comes into this season as the White Sox’ #1 prospect according to Baseball America. He pitched in 6 games (0 starts) for the Pale Hose last year and he was 0-0 with a 3.68 ERA and a 1.50 WHIP. He also pitched in 43 games (0 starts) in A+AA+AAA-ball last year in which he was 2-1 with 5 saves, a 1.26 ERA and a 0.73 WHIP. Reed only gave up 43 hits and 14 walks in 78 1/3 innings while whiffing 111 batters which are eye popping stats. Reed has now pitched in 56 games (2 starts) in his first two years in the minors and he is 3-1 with 6 saves, a 1.41 ERA and a 0.74 WHIP. Reed is going to start the 2012 season as a set-up man for the White Sox, but he could be closing at some point in the year.

Nestor Molina: 23-year old righty reliever/starter Nestor Molina came over to the White Sox in the Sergio Santos deal with the Jays. He comes into this season as the White Sox’ #2 prospect according to Baseball America. Molina pitched in 26 games (23 starts) last year in A+AA-ball last year for the Jays and he was 12-3 with a 2.21 ERA and a 1.00 WHIP. He has now pitched in 103 games (27 starts) in his first five years in the minors and he is 27-7 with a 2.21 ERA and a 1.03 WHIP. Molina could be starting or relieving for the White Sox at some point in 2012.

Jhan Marinez: 23-year old righty reliever Jhan Marinez came over from the Marlins in the Ozzie Guillen deal over the winter. He comes into this season as the White Sox’ #6 prospect according to Baseball America. Marinez pitched in 4 games (0 starts) for the Marlins last year and he was 1-1 with a 6.75 ERA and a 2.25 WHIP. He also pitched in 56 games (0 starts) in AA-ball last year and he was 3-8 with 3 saves, a 3.57 ERA and a 1.53 WHIP. He has now pitched in 161 games (9 starts) in his first six years in the minors and he is 10-15 with 16 saves, a 4.12 ERA and a 1.46 WHIP. Marinez could pitch for the Pale Hose at some point in 2012.

Osvaldo Martinez: 23-year old righty swinging 2B/SS Osvaldo Martinez comes into this season as the White Sox’ #9 prospect as he was part of the return for Ozzie Guillen. Martinez played in 20 games for the Marlins last year and he was 3 for 23 (.130 avg, .261 OPS) with 1 RBI. He has now played in 34 games in his first two years in the majors and he is 17 of 66 (.258 avg, .648 OPS) with 8 runs scored, 0 homers, 3 RBIs and 1 stolen base. He also played in 89 games in AAA-ball last year and he was 83 of 339 (.245 avg, .618 OPS) with 43 runs scored, 3 homers, 26 RBIs and 11 stolen bases. Martinez has now played in 521 games in his first six years in the minors and he is 505 of 1,877 (.269 avg, .682 OPS) with 260 runs scored, 16 homers, 181 RBIs and 60 stolen bases. Martinez could help the White Sox at some point in 2012 as he is versatile in the field defensively.

Eduardo Escobar: 23-year old switch-hitting 2B/SS Eduardo Escobar comes into this season as the White Sox’ #10 prospect according to Baseball America. Escobar played in 9 games for the White Sox last year and he was 2 for 7 (.286 avg, .571 OPS). He also played in 137 games in AAA-ball last year and he was 130 of 489 (.266 avg, .657 OPS) with 55 runs scored, 4 homers, 49 RBIs and 13 stolen bases. Escobar has now played in 579 games in his first six years in the minors and he is 583 of 2,160 (.270 avg, .666 OPS) with 318 runs scored, 14 homers, 212 RBIs and 75 stolen bases. Escobar has made the White Sox’ roster out of spring training and they hope he plays well enough to keep the job.

Hector Santiago: 24-year old lefty starter/reliever Hector Santiago comes into this season as the White Sox’ #11 prospect heading into Baseball America. Santiago pitched in 2 games (0 starts) for the White Sox last year and he was 0-0 with a 0.00 ERA and a 0.38 WHIP. He also pitched in 23 games (all starts) in A+AA-ball last year and he was 9-8 with a 3.60 ERA and a 1.27 WHIP. Santiago has now pitched in 153 games (24 starts) in his first five years in the minors and he is 23-19 with 4 saves, a 3.65 ERA and a 1.34 WHIP. Santiago could help the White Sox as a starter or reliever if the need arises in 2012.

Gregory Infante: 24-year old righty reliever/starter Gregory Infante comes into this season as the White Sox’ #23 prospect according to Baseball America. Infante pitched in 5 games (0 starts) for the White Sox last year and he was 0-0 with a 0.00 ERA and a 1.29 WHIP. He also pitched in 46 games (0 starts) in AA+AAA-ball last year and he was 3-4 with 11 saves, a 2.54 ERA and a 1.34 WHIP. Infante has now pitched in 159 games (45 starts) in his first six years in the minors and he is 17-23 with 23 saves, a 3.82 ERA and a 1.41 WHIP. Infante could help the White Sox out of the pen in 2012.

Dylan Axelrod: 26-year old righty starter/reliever Dylan Axelrod comes into this season as the White Sox’ #24 prospect according to Baseball America. Axelrod pitched in 4 games (3 starts) for the White Sox last year and he was 1-0 with a 2.89 ERA and a 1.45 WHIP. He also pitched in 26 games (24 starts) in AA+AAA-ball last year and he was 9-3 with a 2.69 ERA and a 1.07 WHIP. Axelrod has now pitched in 167 games (52 starts) in his first five years in the minors and he is 27-14 with 8 saves, a 2.80 ERA and a 1.14 WHIP. I think Axelrod will be the first starter called up if the need arises in 2012. With Jake Peavy in the rotation, Axelrod could be in the majors early this year.

Simon Castro: 23-year old righty starting pitcher Simon Castro came over from the Padres in the Carlos Quentin deal. Castro was the Padres’ #14 prospect heading into this season according to Baseball America. Castro pitched in 22 games (22 starts) in AA+AAA-ball last year and he was 7-8 with a 5.63 ERA and a 1.44 WHIP. He has now pitched in 117 games (113 starts) in his first six years in the minors and he is 29-33 with a 4.24 ERA and a 1.29 WHIP. Castro might not arrive in Chicago until 2013.

The White Sox have released 25-year old righty starting pitcher Dexter Carter. Carter pitched in 14 games (12 starts) in A-ball for the White Sox last year and he was 3-5 with a 6.65 ERA and a 1.71 WHIP. He has now pitched in 83 games (67 starts) in his first four years in the minors and he is 18-18 with a 4.75 ERA and a 1.37 WHIP. Carter regressed last year in the minors, so the White Sox aren’t going to miss him at all in 2012.

The Chicago White Sox lose Brandon Short for the season

The White Sox have lost 23-year old righty swinging outfielder Brandon Short for the rest of the season due to a torn labrum in his right shoulder. Short came into this season as the White Sox’ #18 prospect according to Baseball America. Short played in 130 games in AA-ball last year for the White Sox and he is 138 of 526 (.262 avg, .729 OPS) with 75 runs scored, 13 homers, 60 RBIs and 21 stolen bases. He has now played in 392 games in his first four years in the minors and he is 441 of 1,545 (.285 avg., .777 OPS) with 238 runs scored, 36 homers, 217 RBIs and 54 stolen bases. Short will try to make the White Sox again next spring.

Ian Gac seems stuck in A-ball for the Chicago White Sox

Blogged under General, Front Page, The Minors, Bloglockers by chinmusic on Monday 15 August 2011 at 5:45 pm

25-year old righty swinging 1B Ian Gac has played in 118 games in A-ball so far this year for the Pale Hose and he is 119 for 435 (.274 avg, .896 OPS) with 81 runs scored, 30 homers and 82 RBIs. Gac has now played in 845 games in his first 9 years in the minors and he is 798 for 3,195 (.250 avg, .772 OPS) with 447 runs scored, 157 homers, 538 RBIs and 16 stolen bases. Gac has whiffed 1,041 games in his minor league career as he seems to have a lot of holes in his swing. Despite all the power he has shown in the minors, Gac has never played in higher than A-ball….which is amazing.

The Chicago White Sox deal Michael Restovich to the Diamondbacks

Blogged under General, Front Page, The Minors, Bloglockers, Arrivals & Departures by chinmusic on Wednesday 27 July 2011 at 8:18 pm

The White Sox have sent 32-year old righty swinging outfielder Michael Restovich to the Diamondbacks. No word yet on what the White Sox got in return but I can’t imagine it being more than a bucket of batting practice balls. Restovich played in 26 games in AAA-ball for the Pale Hose this year and he was 22 for 96 (.229 avg, .646 OPS) with 11 runs scored, 3 homers and 8 RBIs. This is not much of a loss for the White Sox.
